I will always tell my Mamas to get these kids so pumped and excited to see me. I want to be your friend and someone they can play with and look forward to meeting. Though I do think it is important to share that I will be bringing a camera and taking photographs, I do not want the language around my arrival to have any pressure or authoritative presence.
I have never really resonated with toddlers “behaving” or “cooperating” for photos. I mean, they are little humans, who have big emotions and essentially have no idea what is expected of them. So it is our job to create a fun, free and safe space for them to feel comfortable to be themselves always. As a nanny turned professional photographer, I speak the language of the little ones. I got you.
Before my arrival to your house, you will receive a series of emails to recap, reiterate and go over what we discussed in our phone consultation. Here is a more detailed breakdown of the booking process, but a quick run down of tips to prepare your toddlers and young children are as follows.
Sometimes though, it is not just the kids we have to prep, it is the partner. And I hear you!! I have been on the other side of the camera and had a blast, but I have also been on the other side of the camera and I felt so posed, so fake, like… this isn’t me!! I would never hold his hand like that.
When it comes to helping people feel comfortable in front of the camera, I do have a few tricks up my sleeve. Anything that will lead to laughter or surprises or you have you saying to each other “Our photographer is whacky…” Trusting each other and the process is huge. I want you to have imagery that is like no one else’s! I want you, your partner and your children to enjoy the experience.
