Letting go of expectations from your first in home newborn photography experience and whole heartedly trusting your photographer for your second time around around is essential. Toddlers, older babies and young children bring an element of surprise to our session. With your first born baby, having a photographer come to you can feel peaceful, calm and quiet as you have all the time in the world to breathe in and absorb this new life. When you first born is now your second or third born, the quiet, peacefulness can be harder to find as we shift into embracing everyone’s new role in the family.
Welcoming a new baby is an adjustment period for everyone, especially for young toddlers who cannot quite fully grasp what it means to be a big brother or sister.
Our phone consultation during the booking process is where I really get to know the in’s and out’s of your children- their personalities, their interests, if they are quick to warm up or need some personal space. Some toddlers want to be upside down and tickled and other’s are sensitive to sound and high energy. The two year old below always wanted a blanket- this is a true representation of this time in his life, but also allowed me to bring in blanket/peekaboo play with him get him settled and distracted during our session. If you are looking for a natural newborn photographer to come to your home and photograph your family and young children, here is more about the booking process and what to expect.

As a Family and Newborn photographer, I work in so many different homes with so many different parenting and communication styles, but the underlying tone of my voice as a photographer is patient, creative and fun. With that being said, having parents on board for letting the session unfold organically is super important. To be present and flowy is the best way to engage with young children in a professional photographic setting. Another one of my favorite income visits for newborns and toddlers is here on my blog.
This at home Philadelphia session with a newborn and a toddler was a morning full of laughter, games and personalities. I adore the natural aesthetic of the big brother in his diapers, marching around the master bed having the time of his life. This couple engages in play everyday with their son, so tickling and being silly on the bed was something he was very much used to. His Mama told me prior to our session about his truck obsession and that he is a wild child, so I was ready for everything! Quick on the shutter button and able to give them a beautiful morning together with even more beautiful images.
