When wondering if your dogs, cats and pets are welcome in your Newborn Photography Session, the answer is always YES! Pets and Newborns photographed together will melt any parent’s heart.
Your images should reflect your life as it is now- something to look back on and remember this time.
The best way to bring pets into the session, is in a natural, safe way. This can include laying on the couch, or snuggled up in bed. We use treats and toys to gain attention and interaction. Sometimes, the morning can be a bit overwhelming for fur friends. For that reason we want to make sure there is an option B for when they need alone time.
HOW TO INCLUDE PETS AND NEWBORNS IN YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION
Including dogs means sitting, petting, snuggled and dog kisses (if that is your thing). Sometimes they will be lying around in the photos. This gives your newborn photos a more real, home-like feel to them. If we can, we try for paws in the picture. Once in awhile, a nose to nose connection. Although for the most part, we let dogs come in and out of the frames, sniffing and then leaving.
When photographing families in their own home with pets and newborns, I constantly check in. Specifically with questions like “do you feel comfortable with this” and “is this ok”. This gives parents the opportunity to feel heard and comfortable.
This same opportunity for questioning is given when working with families and children indoors. We use different parts of your home. Though I want our sessions to be engaging and fun, the most important piece is that everyone is safe. Being onboard with how we are playing and moving through your home is important. So, I always check in!
