Your maternity session is for you and your growing family. Moments for you to look back on 20 years from now and think, dayyyyuuuummmm. Look at us!! Sessions are split into parts: lifestyle family and belly portraits. These parts can be help indoors or outdoors, maybe a combination of the two. Either way, capturing this window before your family grows again, is often an overlooked time. Parents think “my toddler will not sit still for maternity photos..” Guess what? They aren’t supposed to! Working with young children is my specialty. You do not want to miss the opportunity for maternity photos with toddlers.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MY TODDLER
Nothing!! Having expectations of emotions, behavior and interest will only lead to disappointment. I encourage all of my clients to head into their session with an openness and playfulness. We are looking at around twenty minutes of interest from any human under the age of four. We will be playing games, having fun chatter and just relaxing.
HOW DO WE PLAN A PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION WITH TODDLERS?
First, during our consultation we will go over your daily routines, nap times, lunch times, temperament and sensory expectations. I want to know favorite songs, personal interests and how your children like to play.
Second, my arrival time will be a little before we actually begin. This gives some time to warm up, help me with some props and show me around the house.
Lastly, following the cues of your child is super important. The best part of being photographed at home is there are snack breaks, familiar rooms and soothing items around in case of over stimulation. We let them leave the group and come back. Toddlers are welcome to wonder down the hall and grab a toy and come back. This will give us images that are truly unique to you and your family, showcasing your child’s true personality.
