Siblings are a huge part of any newborn photography session. They have a new role in the family and no matter their age or craziness, it is important to include them and make them feel part of the photography experience.
I often hear the apprehension of Mothers with toddlers sharing that their son would never sit still or their daughter is too wild to have her cooperate… what does the word cooperate even mean in reference to a two year old child?! They have big emotions and big opinions. Some are shy and others are complete maniacs. But trust me when I tell you that my photography sessions are pure joy for them. They will be in and out, playing games with us, enjoying their morning with their family. I have many tricks up my sleeve for sibling engagement and I really want to make our newborn photography experience enjoyable for the family.
Welcoming a newborn baby and having a toddler to care for is a lot! That is why having your newborn photos taken in your own home is the way to go. No bags to pack, no nap times disrupted, snacks and stuffies on hand.
Plus, amongst all the change happening around them, young children tend to feel more comfortable in their own space.
The seasonal changes in the Philadelphia area also allow some outdoor time, some fireplace snuggle time or holiday decorating time to incorporate into your newborn photography session!

This newborn session was photographed in December in Philadelphia around the holidays, so there is a warm, cozy vibe to their collection. The weather was too cold for a newborn to be outside, so we remained indoors, using the masterbed, living room window and kitchen. Yes, we moved the kitchen table to make the perfect pocket of light and space for their newborn photos with an active toddler.
