What to Wear for your Spring Family Photography Session

With spring on the mind, the entire family is ready to get outside and have some fun. When it comes to your doing your family photos outdoors, many clients say the most stressful part is finding coordinating outfits for the family.

Hopefully, with my style guide as inspiration and a list of my favorite shops and key words to search, you can find some thing in your own wardrobe or purchase a new clothing item that doesn’t break the bank. Here is a list of my go-to favorite stores.

What to wear spring family photos

When thinking about your outdoor family photos, the number one thing to consider is being comfortable! You will be moving, playing, city, laying, and you want to feel free to move around and engage with your family.

Any fabric with texture (i.e. linen, denim, knits) photograph very well. Long flow dresses and maxi skirts will show movement and can add a dynamic element to your gallery. There is also something timeless about keeping it simple with denim, boots and simple, plain T-shirts… something you dont mid the kids getting dirty when they are having a good time.

When mixing and matching outfits it is important to note that coordinating, does not mean matching. The key is to mix different textures, solids, patterns and layers together in a cohesive, natural way. If you find a piece that you really love, whether it is a blouse or dress for you, or something fun for the kids, use that piece as your focal point and build around. Taking screenshots and pictures of potential options and collecting them together in an album on your phone or desktop can help you visualize and see the clothing together.
