There are countless reasons to have the photographer come to you. The obvious lies in the fact that your collection of images will feel more true to you and this time, but the not-so-obvious will be the time leading up to the session and getting ready behind the scenes.
We have all been there- you have a big surprise for the kids and you are trying desperately to get them fed, washed up, and ready. Shoes are on, shoes are off, a melt down here, and spill there. You have zero time to even brush your hair or find matching socks because you have to be a certain place at a certain time. You are so super excited and want to share this with them, but little humans with big feelings have different plans for the mornings.
When the photographer comes to your house for newborn photos or family photos or anything in between, you get to dial down that behind the scenes stress a bit. By removing the car travel and the time constraints, you spend the morning at slower pace and start your session off in a more enjoyable way.
Emotions are so heavily tied to your photographic experience. That is the point of photographing in a candid, lifestyle way… you want to remember how this time felt and what it smelled like and all the sounds that went with this chapter. You do not want to remember negative feelings or emotions from your family photos every time you look at your pictures.
The newborn session below welcomed the newest brother into this family of five. All children were under the age of four, and with that comes some creative games and fun requests from my nanny days. These parents were ready to get down on the ground and play with their kids, they were snuggle piles and smooches and just let it flow. I make no promises of a sit and smile family portrait, but I will always capture the feelings and the emotions among your family in a natural way.
